BAMBOO FOREST
OUTSIDE BAMBOO COTTAGE

A gentle breeze sent the wind chimes hanging on the front porch of the bamboo cottage swinging haphazardly, filling the air with a light musical tinkling. At a nearby bush, a rabbit hopped around, sticking its furry nose out of the thick shrubbery to sniff the air. The sharp chirping of birds echoed throughout the forest, the sweet melody blending in perfectly with the continuous gurgling sound of the nearby brook.

Not far away from the cottage, leaves could be heard rustling as a white robed young man raced across the treetops, his fan expertly cutting through the air in rapid and precise movements. With a powerful flick of the wrist, he flung his fan toward the grove of bamboo stalks. The fan made a shrill, swishing noise as it sliced through several bamboo stalks upon contact before deflecting off the sturdy, ancient willow tree and returned to its owner.

VALLEY OF LOST SOULS

“Help me, please!”

Startled, Miu Jing Hung and Bak Yeuk Lam turned toward the wailing voice.

In the hazy glow of twilight, they could see the blurry outline of a petite form floating toward them.  Then from above the small figure, a shadow, moving so quickly they nearly missed it, streaked forward and reached toward the slender form.  In an instant, both figures disappeared, as if they had never existed.

“Is he bothering you?”

Before Yan could turn around to respond, a masculine hand suddenly reached out from behind Yan and clenched hard around Young Master Yuen’s arm, forcing the privileged, arrogant man to yelp in pain.

Yan jerked her head around at that moment, and recognizing her rescuer, sighed with relief.  Before she could utter a singe word, the spoiled man gripping her arm exclaimed with outrage.

HEAVENLY CRANE SCHOOL
LEADER LUK’S CHAMBER

Leader Luk Dai Yung removed a painting hanging from the far wall of his room to reveal a hidden compartment built into the wall.  He moved a series of small stone levers in a specific order, and the compartment door slid open smoothly.  From inside, he carefully withdrew a small velvet pouch.  He untied the pouch and took out a pair of silk silver-colored gloves.

“Teacher,” Ling Dong asked worriedly.  “Are you really going to give Sit Chung Nam these gloves?  He’s already tyrannical enough right now.  With these gloves, we will only make him more invincible and more terrifying to the pugilist world.”

Leader Luk sighed, as he glanced sadly at the gloves in his hands.  “Dong, these gloves are fake.”

Book Review: The Demoness is not Evil (妖女不妖) by Xi Meng (裘梦)

Unknown-1Gentleman Xiao Yao (Carefree) was a well-known, well-liked pugilist in the wulin (pugilist world), and he had thought himself to be a righteous man as well.  But ever since he met her, he found he had the potential to be a real scoundrel.  From baiting her to figuring ways to hold her hand… ay, what else could he do since she was so intriguing?

She looked liked a rich man’s daughter but there was nothing of that beneath the surface.  She was highly skilled and her arsenal includes her tongue as well, since her cutting remarks often drive people nuts.  Her actions were bold and the word ‘proprietary’ was obviously not in her dictionary.

To fall in love with her was both sweetness and sadness.  Sweet was times being with her.  Sadness was because of her unpredictability, like the day  she left without a word.  As he tried to search for her, he can’t help but wonder if this was the test to see if they could be together?

Male Lead: 柳枫 Liu Feng
Female Lead: 曲清音 Qu Qing Yin
Ending Type: Happy Ending (HE)
